A short guide

What to look for when choosing a financial advisor.

You should be able to answer three questions about anyone who manages your money. Here is how we answer them, and how to verify our answers independently.

01

Trust

Do I trust them?

Trust is not a feeling you get in a first meeting. It is a record, and records are public.

  • Fiduciary, accountable, and a steward of your assets
  • Full disclosure on services, conflicts, and compensation
  • SEC records are squeaky clean, and you should check them yourself
  • No disciplinary history, no reporting history, no bankruptcy
  • We do the right thing and treat others the way we want to be treated

02

Competence

Do they know what they’re doing?

Ask what they are qualified to advise on, and who actually builds the portfolio you will own.

  • CFP® and ChFC designations on the team
  • 50+ years of experience with investments
  • Taxes, insurance, estate planning, retirement planning
  • Retirement income and tax optimization
  • College planning, Social Security, pensions
  • Business advice and business sales
  • Strategy experts, optimizing fanatics, financial engineering

03

Fit

Am I going to enjoy working with them?

You will talk to this person about your family, your worries, and your plans for thirty years. Fit is not a soft consideration.

  • Life's too short not to enjoy the journey, especially with your finances
  • We work with people we genuinely connect with, and comfort makes everything flow
  • Our aim: clients for life
  • Finances don't have to be boring; it's an adventure waiting to unfold
  • Your passions become our passions

Ask us these three questions. Then ask the next firm on your list.
